Biography Porter Matt White

As a family run kitchen company with over 30 years’ experience, it’s safe to say that we know a thing or three about kitchen manufacture and supply. With such a long track record in the kitchen industry, there are some questions that we get asked time and again by customers. Here are the top 5:

1 – Do you manufacture your own kitchens?

Yes, at Price Kitchens we manufacture all the carcases with the help of precision machinery and the latest software systems. All our kitchen furniture is made in-house, factory assembled and delivered by our own transport – no flat pack delivery here!

All wall unit sizes are available in all finished. Plus, since we manufacturer in our own factory, we can make non-standard units and sizes. In terms of specification, our team is able to adapt the kitchen to fit your home and the needs of your family. You can have any door on any unit (subject to availability) with any handle you want.

There’s a wide range of factory fitted internal accessories available including baskets, corner units and pull-out larders, plus additional options that may need to be fitted on site.

2 – What are carcases made of?

Our carcases are made from MFC (melamine-faced-chipboard) conforming to BS5669. You can either choose from MFC colour matched carcases with soft close doors and drawers, or you can opt for a standard carcase in white MFC with colour complementary exposed end panels, and metal sided drawers having MFC backs and bases.

Our timber doors have solid frame and drawer fronts, while the centre panel can be solid or veneered. A timber effect door, on the other hand, has an engineered finish such as foil or vinyl, with a man made MDF or chipboard core. Available as a one-piece or component door, timber effect will produce a uniform finish. We would generally recommend a one-piece construction since it is less vulnerable to water ingress.

3 – Do you supply specialist worktops?

Yes, Price Kitchens can supply timber, engineered stone, granite and Corian worktops. Timber worktops add real warmth and character to a kitchen but the surface will need oiling to protect it. Worktops can either be supplied from measurements or a template, depending on the complexity of the kitchen project.

Corian is a very hygienic surface and has the benefit of virtually invisible joints and integrated sinks. There’s a vast range of colours to choose from and the surface can be repaired if it gets damaged. Stone worktops have a beautiful natural shine. Materials such as quartz and granite are extremely heavy and their patterns are naturally beautiful and unique every time – unless you choose engineered stone which gives a more uniform grain. Stone and Corian worktops are typically provided on a template, supply and fit basis.

4 – Do you also supply appliances?

Of course we supply kitchen appliances! In fact, we have built up longstanding professional relationships with a number of ‘core’ suppliers that include premium brands Neff, AEG, Zanussi, Electrolux and Rangemaster. We buy our appliances direct from the manufacturer and can offer them to our customers at very competitive prices.

A specially designed built-in kitchen gives you total freedom of choice to add whatever appliances are suitable for your lifestyle. From freestanding range cookers to built-in double ovens, American fridges or integrated dishwashers, we can advise on the best choice for your kitchen design.

5 – What do I do next?

Pop into our Croydon showroom and take a look at the displays to get a better idea of what’s available. Discuss your specific requirements with our team including how you use the kitchen and what materials and styles you envisage.

Bring your room dimensions along or arrange for us to visit your home. Once we have all the information, we can then supply a CAD design and 3D photo impressions to help you visualised the finished result, along with exact specifications and a quotation.

When you’re ready to make the decision to move ahead, our lead-in for manufacture and delivery is 4-8 weeks, depending on the specific kitchen you choose. The vast majority of our work is supply only, but we can arrange for qualified electrician and gas fitters to carry out the installation or deal with you direct.
