Christmas is on the doorstep and, COVID permitting, families all over the UK are looking forward to some festive celebrations at home. If you are hosting Christmas this year, now is the time to get organised.

Whether you’re planning to use your kitchen for cooking Christmas dinner or having an informal gathering of close friends, limited storage space for all the extra food, drink and decorations can be a problem. The last thing you want is for your home to look and feel cluttered rather than warm and welcoming. Here at Price Kitchens, we’ve put together some handy storage and organisation ideas to help you remain calm and in control in a perfectly organised home this month.

1.    Max out your fridge

Christmas food shopping is bound to put an extra strain on your fridge, so now is the time to declutter and reorganise, making space for all those festive dishes you are going to make, plus all the extras you’re going to buy.

In recent years, smart fridge freezers have become increasingly popular. Appliances from brands such as Samsung, LG, Miele, Bosch and Siemens are internet connected, allowing you to check the contents of your fridge from your smartphone, even while you’re out shopping! Some models have WiFi enabled touchscreens for easier grocery management, while others will alert you if the fridge door has been left open.

2.    Clever kitchen storage

Kitchen storage should never be underestimated. Good kitchen design is built around maximising all the available space and should follow the principle of ‘a place for everything and everything in its place’. This is particularly important at Christmas time when storage space is always at a premium. How do you achieve clutter free worktops to keep your kitchen fully functional yet looking appealing?

At Price Kitchens, we have a wide choice of storage solutions that can make the most of every nook and cranny. By incorporating pull-out larders, fully extendable drawers, rotating or floating corner storage, wine racks, spice racks and more, it is possible to make even the smallest kitchen work hard and look good.

3.    Perfectly stored drinks

Are you stocking up on wine and beer for the upcoming festivities? Having dedicated storage space for bottles means you can keep your Christmas drinks safely out of the way until it’s time to pop that cork. A combination of chilled and ambient storage will give you the best of both worlds.

If your family are keen wine drinkers and connoisseurs, a wine cooler is a great kitchen appliance to invest in. There’s a wide choice available in different sizes including freestanding and integrated models with single and dual temperature zone options. Top-of-the-range wine coolers not only ensure that your wine is kept at the optimum temperature and humidity, they have UV proof glass, the right level of air circulation and low vibration technology to protect the precious contents.

4.    Seating for everyone

Christmas entertaining means there should be plenty of space for everyone to sit, relax and enjoy each other’s company, or a good movie. And with social distancing a key requirement this year, having more than enough seating space in your home could not be more important.

Get creative with seating arrangements in your kitchen, dining and sitting areas, spacing everything out as much as possible. Use open plan areas such as kitchen/diners, conservatories and even the garden. If you have a kitchen island, you could use it as a serving area for drinks or buffet food, as a central area to perch, or group seating around it.

5.    Festive lighting

Finally, don’t forget that the right lighting can make or break the atmosphere – especially at Christmas time. To create the right ambience in your kitchen, dining room or living room, take inspiration from our Buyers Guide for Kitchen Lighting. We also wrote a blog about the 4 basic types of lighting every kitchen needs.

Use overhead lighting to gently illuminate the room while you dine but without creating harsh glare. Dimmed lights, candles, fairy lights, additional lamps on side tables and of course the full glory of the Christmas tree will all add to the festive ambience.

At Price Kitchens, we are experts in making kitchens come to life with our kitchen collections and many options for storage, worktops, lighting and more. Why not pop into our showroom for professional advice and guidance from our knowledgeable team? We look forward to seeing you.
