Christmas is a special time of year; it’s when our homes, and particularly our kitchens, really come into their own. Most family have their own Christmas traditions and routines, which usually revolve around food and drink. From Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day, it’s party time!
And what better way to start off the festivities than with Christmas drinks? Why not invite the neighbours over, get your friends together or gather the family – this is a time to be sociable and have fun.
If you’re stuck for ideas of what to serve your guests, here are three great ideas for Christmas Cocktails you might like to try.
Cranberry & Pear Fizz
You will need: 1 bottle of chilled sweet sparkling wine, 100 ml chilled pressed pear juice, 2 tbsp dry cranberries, 8 small sprigs of rosemary
Place the cranberries in a bowl to soak with 2 tbsp warm water for 15 minutes until cool. Divide the pear juice among 8 champagne flutes and add the cranberries. Carefully pour wine into each glass and garnish with rosemary.
Winter Spice Punch
You will need: 2 litres cloudy apple juice, 8 tbsp dark rum (optional), 6 scoops vanilla ice cream, 2 tsp vanilla extract, ½ tsp ground cinnamon, ½ tsp ground nutmeg, pinch of ground cloves, 6 dried apple slices.
In a large saucepan, gently heat the apple juice, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and vanilla extract until it comes to a gentle boil. Add the ice cream and whisk vigorously until combined and frothy. Pour a tbsp of rum into each cup or heatproof glass, then top with the hot liquid. Garnish with dried apple slices.
You will need: 400ml Amaretto liqueur, 600ml freshly squeezed orange juice (chilled), 2 bottles of Prosecco (chilled), strips of orange zest.
In a jug, mix the Amaretto, Prosecco and orange juice. Pour into champagne classes and garnish with orange zest.
