Your worktop is the work horse of your kitchen. From tea making to chicken basting and cake piping, it’s the surface on which everything happens. But it’s more than that: the right kitchen worktop adds an aesthetic quality to the space that can give your kitchen a real wow factor. In terms of durability, attractive appearance and ease of maintenance, you really couldn’t choose a more desirable feature for your kitchen than a granite worktop.

What is granite?

Granite is a natural stone that’s extremely durable and hard wearing. It’s an igneous rock formed from the Earth’s magma, with a coarse grained structure that it chiefly made up of quartz and feldspar. Granite comes in a wide variety of beautiful colours and patterns ranging from red to browns to greys to black. Every worktop is totally unique.

What are the benefits?

Whether in a traditionally polished finish or a honed matt finish, granite simply looks stunning. Whether you prefer a classic kitchen or a contemporary style, the timeless beauty of granite adds real character to any home environment.

Granite has a dense structure that makes it water resistant and scratch resistant, the perfect solution for everyday kitchen use. What’s more, granite is heat resistant up to 200C, meaning it’s a great kitchen surface to put alongside your hob or oven or sink.

Maintenance is simple and straightforward: clean your granite worktop regularly with a mild detergent and a damp cloth.

Are there any downsides?

Not really, unless you are thinking of having a light coloured granite worktop installed, in which case a little extra care must be taken. The minimum porosity of granite means that small amounts of liquid may be absorbed – red wine, citric acids and vinegar in particular. It goes without saying that spills should be mopped up quickly and that cleaning agents should not be vinegar or citrus based.

Granite is a stone that combines luxury aesthetics, extreme durability and low maintenance. While modern kitchens and kitchen surfaces need to be able to withstand heavy regular use, our granite worktops provide the perfect answer for a busy home life.
