Farmhouse kitchens are a timeless classic. Whether you give the heart of your home a traditional makeover or a modern rustic twist, the goal is to create a warm, cosy, and inviting place for family and friends to gather. Here are some key tips to help you transform your kitchen into a country inspired space with a classic kitchen look that’s fresh and modern.

1. Choose Your Colours Wisely.

White farmhouse kitchen colour schemes makes the room look bigger but if you want to add some style and personality, accent colours on cabinets or walls, or even appliances, are the way to go. Pantone makes annual predictions about the most popular hues, and Sweet Lavender, Muted Clay, Mayfly (olive green), Nugget Gold and French Blue are all hotly tipped for 2020. For classic kitchens, nature inspired shades, playful pastels and bold colours can all work wonders.

2. Use Patterns To Add Interest.

Country style evokes heavy plaid blankets and tweed, but it doesn’t have to stop there. Any pattern – stripes, floral, woodland and farm animal prints, etc. – will look great against a rustic kitchen backdrop. Why not think beyond fabrics and wallpapers by considering your choice of cookware and tableware? In doing so, you can help create a cohesive cosy theme in your kitchen, especially when putting it all on an open display.

3. Add Traditional Pieces & Antiques.

If you don’t want your farmhouse kitchen to appear too modern, mix in some antique details like a preloved Victorian dining table or Welsh Dresser, Butler sink and traditional taps, vintage decorations, lighting or accessories. Choose your appliances so they match the vintage vibe – this is no place for space age design. When it comes to appliances, an AGA or Rangemaster range cooker and a retro styled fridge will set the right tone.

4. Mix, Match & Show It All Off.

A country kitchen shouldn’t look perfect; it’s much homelier when there are mismatched dining chairs, quirky individual cabinet handles, or eclectic decorative pieces and accessories. Choose open shelving, glass doors, hooks and racks as kitchen storage options, and show off your treasures in an effortless yet charming way.
